QUICK REVIEW: NOVA 2 in 1 Ceramic Curling & Straightening Iron

Hello everyone! How have you been doing? I know, I know, I haven’t posted anything for like a bajillion years. What’s new, I’m always busy. I’ve finally moved into my new home. Like just moved in (yesterday) and have barely settled down. Everything’s still in boxes. House in a mess. Helper has just arrived and I have to train her how to do things my way (I’m a little anal when it comes to housekeeping and my hubby is somewhat like Bree Van De Kamp in Desperate Housewives; OCD in the cleanliness and tidiness area). Despite all that, we are of course very nice and grateful to our helper for keeping the house in check while we are both at work. So yeah, that’s a quick update on me. And since I’ve some help around the house, I now have a little time in between to edit some reviews.

Below’s a review of this 2-in-1 hair iron. Enjoy!

Pink…Me likey!

AWESOME because…

  • 2-in-1 product; can curl and straighten (the idea is awesome)
  • It’s light; great for traveling
  • Inexpensive; Originally priced at RM209, now on promo *RM68/*USD$21.54 [even more affordable]
  • Available in four colors as written on the box; it looks like they only have it in pink from the website

NOT AWESOME because…

  • Nano ceramic coating so it’s not a full ceramic product; there was a funny “burnt smell” whilst using the iron (not sure if it’s just the unit I’m using)
  • The curler was hard to use; the joining of the handle when using the curling option was hard to open maybe coz its new
  • Does not straighten very well; have to hold with 2 hands to really make sure that the both irons are pressing down the hair

Overall, I like the idea and the price. But functionality and result wise, I would prefer to buy 2 separate products that is made of pure ceramic. For more info or to purchase the product, just click here. Ships worldwide! Have you tried this before? What are your thoughts on this? Till then, Toodles!

*Price is as seen on the website at the time of this post; 19/08/14
*Exchange rate is based on RM1 to USD$0.32 at the time of editing this review

BH Cosmetics Eyes On The 70s Palette Review

Happy Saturday everyone! The weekdays passes by so quickly and before we know it, its the weekend again. Now, I enjoy my weekends even more coz I spend every minute of it with my lil’ bub who brings nothing but joy and laughter. Talking a typical mom huh? But, on top of all that, I still find the time to enjoy makeup every now and then. So here’s a review on the BH Cosmetics Eyes on the 70s palette…

AWESOME because…

  • Affordable and inexpensive; USD$7.95 (errr.. I bought it for USD$9.95 when it first launched) + USD$21.95 shipping to KL [approx. RM3.40 per color; cheap, no?]
  • Nice packaging
  • Average pigmentation; some colors are chalky but buildable
  • Create endless eye looks from the 70s or even just day/ night looks

Row 5

NOT AWESOME because…

  • Barely any matte colors
  • Too many blue and green shades; I suppose they were the rage back in the 70s?
  • Quite a bit of fall out with some colors; colors with the chunkier glitter
  • Palette colors contains parabens; something you ought to know if you’re one to prefer “paraben-free” products

Overall, it’s an OK palette. It’s just not my go-to palette because I don’t fancy no blue and green eye colors. I would prolly only reach for this palette if I had a 70s theme party to go to, maybe Halloween and/or to the office with those neutral colors.

As much as I like the products that BH Cosmetics comes out with, I get really upset with their pricing. Most of the time I think I’m getting a really good deal and when I browse through their website again, the price has been reduced within the next few days or weeks! Has that ever happen to you?

Oh well, have you tried this palette yet? What are your thoughts? It’s Hari Raya in the next few days. So, to those who are celebrating the occasion, Selamat Hari Raya! Till then, Toodles!

RANDOM RANT #19 – Baby’s Passport Application in Kuala Lumpur

Now that was easy breezy! I thought getting a baby’s passport was just gonna be a nightmare. My lil’ bub was a trooper throughout the process. He was calm and happy.

You will need the following:

  1. Mother’s I/C – 1 photocopy. Never cross out the photocopy. You will need to give them just the photocopy, back and front.
  2. Baby’s Birthcert – Original and 1 photocopy
  3. Baby’s Photo Passport size with white background – You can do it at the immigration itself. They will have shops to do so. I was charged RM10 for 4 photos
  4. Baby – Baby MUST be present at the time of application and collection
  5. Cash – They only accept payment in cash
  6. The Father/Other half – To chauffeur the mother and baby around

Total hours spent: 1.5 hours. Wasn’t that fast!? Impressed.

Location: Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur

Passport Options:

  • 2 yrs: RM80
  • 5 yrs: RM150

Of course I took 5 years. Saves the hassle and cheaper than getting a 2 year passport. Looks like my lil’ bub might just be a jet-setter!

While I was waiting for my number to be called for the passport collection, a little boy (approx. 4-5 years old) came up to my lil precious bub to what seem like he was trying to make friends. But heck no, the lil’ boy straight up smacked my baby and I got all defensive, covered my boy’s face and told the kid off nicely to stop him from smacking my baby further. And all his father did was to pull him away and apologized on his behalf. He did not bother to teach his kid that it was wrong to do so. That little kid continued doing that to another kid nearby and made him cry and yes the father did nothing again. I was furious the whole day ranting at my husband in utter disgust at how this parent did nothing to teach his son proper manners.

Question of the day: What would you do in such situation?

Till then, Toodles!
